According to reports, a mela and kabbadi tournament was being held at the village. Some men reached the gurdwara in a car and started selling liquor. Angry villagers attacked them and damaged the vehicle and liquor bottles.

Sukhjit Singh, village resident, said they asked the men to leave the premises but they did not pay heed to their requests.

This irked the villagers and they attacked the men. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers also reached the site, giving the incident a political colour.

SP Amarjit Sandhu reached the village with police personnel to control the situation. SSP DS Maan said four persons — Gurdit Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Kulwinder Singh and Nishan Singh — were held.

SHO Bhupinder Singh has been suspended on account of negligence of duty.
