A 25-year-old woman, who was reportedly upset on receiving obscene calls from three men, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling at her house at Ahmedpur village of Sonepat district, police said. The incident took place on Monday night when the woman was alone at her house.
Her husband said when he returned home, he found her hanging and also saw the suicide note written in a copy placed on the bed. “I had gone out for work. When I came back, I found her hanging from the ceiling. I called my relatives and police, who took the body and conducted the postmortem,” he said.
In her suicide note, the woman wrote that three men had been calling her from past few days and were harassing her. She said even though she called on women helpline number ‘1091’ to report against the three men, police did not offer any help.
“I spoke about my problem when I called 1091. A day later, I got a call from investigation officer Anil to whom I narrated the entire matter. He asked me to come to the police station and give a written complaint or he will come to my house. I told him that was not possible and requested him to ask the three men to stop troubling me. I also gave their contact numbers to the policeman, but he said he won’t be able to do anything of that sort,” stated the suicide note left by the deceased.
Based on her husband’s version, the police booked the three accused — identified as Pawan, Abhishek and Rahul — on charges of abetment to suicide and harassment.
Sonepat Sadar police station in-charge Dalbir Singh said they were investigating the matter and role of the investiagting officer who did not help.
