'Hawala' money seized in Ludhiana, Jagraon

Enforcement-directorate teams from Chandigarh and Delhi raided two money exchangers in Ludhiana and Jagraon on Thursday and confiscated Rs 66 lakh and dollars worth Rs 18 lakh in suspected hawala cash.

Enforcement-directorate teams from Chandigarh and Delhi raided two money exchangers in Ludhiana and Jagraon on Thursday and confiscated Rs 66 lakh and dollars worth Rs 18 lakh in suspected hawala cash.

The team also seized documents recording transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore. The squads raided Goyal Forex on the Rani Jhansi road in Jagraon, the exchanger's house, and the office of another exchanger, his nephew, at Ghumar Mandi in Ludhiana. Directorate officer Gurnam Singh said the teams had inputs about hawala money.

He confirmed that the teams had confiscated Indian and foreign currency and some documents from the shops to investigate. The raids were conducted under heavy police security.
