The directions came from a division bench comprising acting chief justice Jasbir Singh and justice Rakesh Kumar Jain on a public interest litigation filed by Jagjit Singh who alleged that various marriage palaces in Patiala district were flouting the laid down rules.

During the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, the district town planner of Patiala apprised the court that 82 cases of violations by marriage places in the district had been reported for which a scrutiny panel had been constituted.

The petitioner had informed the high court that marriage palaces in Nabha, Samana, Patran and Rajpura were operating without taking mandatory permissions and no objection certificates from Punjab pollution control board, fire department and district town planner.

The case would now come up for hearing on July 24.
