The single-judge bench of justice Lisa Gill asked both governments to submit their response on Thursday. The petitions were filed by Kapoor Chand, his wife Kaushalya Devi and one Ranjit Singh. While is Chand is father of deceased Bhim Tank, Ranjit Singh is brother of Gurjant Singh, who is injured.
The petitioners have alleged harassment at the hands of Punjab Police and sought directions for a security cover by either central forces or police of other states.
“The local police have become a puppet in the hands of Akali leader and main accused Shiv Lal Doda and other criminals. The cops had registered a false rape case against Tank at Doda’s behest,” the petitioners claimed. They also accused Doda, a local halqa in-charge of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), of being a “hardcore” criminal.
The local cops have been harassing us by conducting repeated raids at our houses and are forcing us for a compromise, claimed petitioners.
