Help vigilance dept fight corruption, people urged

Giani Ditt Singh Welfare Society in association with the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Monday organised a seminar to sensitise the public about the ill-effects of corruption and to teach them the ways to weed out this evil from society.
Fatehgarh Sahib DSP Balwinder Singh Randhawa and inspector Iqbal Singh were the resource persons, who exhorted the public to co-operate with the vigilance department to make society corruption-free. The seminar was attended by sarpanches and panches of several villages, nambardars, councillors, eminent personalities and public.
Amandeep Singh Aman Gandhi, president, Giani Ditt Singh Welfare Society, extended gratitude toward the VB for supporting them in this noble cause.
Making a clarion call, Randhawa urged people not to grease palms of the government officials for getting their work done. He said if any government official demands bribe, the information regarding such a nefarious activity must be immediately given to the vigilance department so that the culprit could be nabbed red-handed.
He said a toll-free number (1800-1800-1000) has been set up by the vigilance bureau its head office at Chandigarh, where one can report any corrupt activity. Besides one can also contact him on his mobile phone (85588-08947), Randhawa said, adding that a complaint can also be lodged on the vigilance department's website www.vigilancebureaupunjab.org and can be mailed at email@example.com.
Amandeep Singh Gandhi said the need of the hour to protect society from ill-effects of corruption by sensitising the masses about their rights.
He added that they had chalked out an elaborate plan to conduct public meetings and seminars with the motive of educating the masses on various government schemes and to prepare them to play a proactive role for the eradication of social evils and corrupt practices from society.
