Jalandhar ready for makeover under City Scape Project

The city will soon get a makeover in the City Scape Project under Urban Rural Regeneration Mission. Mayor Sunil Jyoti while talking about the project on Friday said the beautification will be carried at a cost of Rs 18 crore.
The project is being funded by Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB). Jyoti said the project will be a great help in setting Jalandhar’s image as a smart city.
“We have added various works under the project that will not only make it aesthetically beautiful but also technically sound,” said Jyoti.
The municipal corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) is aiming to complete the work by March next year.
However, PIDB is yet to release the funds although they have given approval to the project. The mayor however assured that funds will be released in the coming two to three days.
Meanwhile Kulvinder Singh, superintendent engineer, building and road department, said that by next week, they will hold technical bidding for the works after which, the financial bidding will be carried out.
“We will be allotting work on the basis of whether the company has earlier worked on such a project besides assuring required infrastructure and skilled workforce,” said Kulvinder Singh.
Works to be carried out:
Civil work Work on main roads of the city including interlocking tiles, kerb stone, kerb channel, central verges and guides
Signages Signages will be put on the main roads with stainless steel holder including signages, delineator and overhead board, cautionary or mandatory boards
MS Grill MS railings on central verges and rotaries
Mastic Asphalt On flyovers such as that of the bus stand and BMC chowk
Paint and art work Paint work on islands chowks, central verges, major walls and flyovers. The MC is planning to collaborate with art institute for the work
Traffic Signals Digitally synchronised traffic signals will be made at major interjections of the city
Shifting of poles Poles that somehow obstructs traffic and which are randomly installed will be shifted
Chowks uprgradation Various chowks like Doaba chowk, Guru Amardas chowk, HMV, Mission, BMC Alaska, BSF will be upgraded
Variable sign boards Informatory boards with LED lights for modernisation of roads will be placed
Drip Irrigation Drip irrigation system of the central verges will be made
*In addition to this, all the entry points of the city will have Jalandhar’s official logo
