Jalandhar woman attacked; husband, mother-in-law taken for questioning

A 26-year-old woman was attacked with sharp-edged weapons in Karol Bagh locality on Thursday morning. The victim, Mamta, has sustained more than five deep cuts on her throat. She was admitted to Johal Hospital after being shifted from the civil hospital.
Mamta was alone at the home when the incident took place. Her husband Pradeep Kumar, 30, had gone with son, Yash, 3, for their pet’ s vaccination. The four closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV’ s) installed outside the house had captured the entry of Mamta’s mother-in-law, Usha Rani, and a man, Kashmir Singh Sodhi, at 10.01am, along with the victim. At 10.12am, Rani was seen coming out and washing her hands at a washbasin near the main door.
Police said that a property case between Rani and her sons was pending in the court.
Then, she went back into the room and at 10.19am, Sodhi and Usha moved towards the gate and both of them left the house. At 10.22am, the victim came out and fell down.
After spotting the victim, the neighbours took her to the civil hospital. Later, her husband reached the hospital. Owing to her serious condition, she was admitted to Johal Hospital after shifting from civil hospital. When the police reached the spot, they found blood at the entrance of the house. On the basis of the CCTV footage, police have rounded up Rani and Kashmir Singh Sodhi.
Police said that Rani lives separately from her sons, Pardeep and his elder brother Vinod, who live together with their families. During the incident, Vinod’s family were out to visit some relatives.
Police said that a property case between Rani and her sons is already pending in the court. Senior police officials scanned all four CCTV cameras installed there and forensic experts collected fingerprints’ and blood samples.
“Following the preliminary investigation, we have rounded up Pradeep, Usha and Kashmir Singh for questioning,” said police commissioner Parveen Kumar Sinha. He said that a case has been registered under the Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the trio and have been arrested.
