Amid confusion over former militant Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa's next course of action, his supporters lifted their protest from outside the Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib on Monday evening.

Following police intervention, the protestors agreed to lift their protest amicably. The protestors were sitting outside the gurdwara for past one week.

Large number of young supporters expressed their anguish over the state government and several religious heads for issuing misleading statements.

Sukhwinder Singh, representative of the Sri Granth Sahib Satikar Sabha (Punjab-Haryana), who was leading the protest, said that the reports regarding Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa ending his fast have created confusion among his supporters about his next course of action.

He said that after the poor response from the state government and the Centre, Gurbachan Singh, head priest of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, must take up the matter and lead the movement.

"We will request Akal Takht Jathedar to lead this movement for the release of Sikh prisoners", he added.

A police official said that he had reached on the spot as per the instructions from senior officials and convinced the protesters to call off their protest.
