The body of the youngster was found in the fields of village Bhuchcher, Tarn Taran SSP Manminder Singh said and claimed that the role of the boy's uncle Surjit Kumar in the crime had been established. Efforts were on to arrest another accused Lakhwinder Singh.

The SSP said that a monetary dispute between the victim's father Ramjee and Lakhwinder had led to the crime.

Jagjit was kidnapped while he was going to school on Saturday. His family had approached police after the boy failed to return home. The family had also received a ransom call in which the kidnappers had demanded Rs 12 lakh to set the boy free.

Although police had conducted raids and involved three DSPs and five SHOs to trace the boy, no breakthrough could be made in the case.

On Monday, police had recovered the bicycle and school bag of the boy from near a drain in Khalra.
