In a statement, she said first it was the death of Chamel Singh in a Pakistani jail that exposed Pakistan and as if that was not enough, Sarabjit, too, was done to death. The Indian government should seek justice for the two deaths by taking up the matter at an international forum, Chawla said.
"Had India reacted strongly after the death of Chamel Singh, perhaps things would have been different. But unfortunately the Indian government remained complacent in the first case and the result it there for all to see," she said.
Chawla added that to "save" the lives of remaining Indian nationals who are lodged in Pakistani jails, the Indian government must send out a clear message across the border that such incidents will not be tolerated anymore. Pakistan is duty-bound to ensure protection of all Indians in their jails, she added.
