BJP national vice-president Laxmi Kanta Chawla on Monday flayed the demonstrations held a day earlier by Sikhs protesters on railway tracks in Delhi and in parts of Punjab since these had caused great inconvenience to passengers.
In a statement issued here, she questioned the wisdom of the organisers of such protests that put the common man to great deal of hardships.
The former state minister also demanded stern action against those participating in such demonstrations so that no one dared to block railway tracks or highways or any other road.
"How is the common man connected to Congress leader Sajjan Kumar whose acquittal by a Delhi court led to these protests? Why should a commoner suffer for a decision taken by a court?" she asked.
However, Chawla did not refer to any particular political party or organisation behind these demonstrations, which were primarily organised by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) in the national capital. The DSGMC is controlled by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), an alliance partner of the BJP in Punjab and a member of the National democratic Alliance (NDA).
In her statement, she lamented that the government failed to take timely action against the demonstrators. No effort was made to remove them from the tracks for public convenience, she added without naming the government of any particular state.
