Local polls: Police urge licencees to deposit firearms

The district police commissionerate on Monday appealed to those with licensed weapons to deposit their firearms with the nearest police stations or gun houses so as to ensure free and fair zila parishad and block samiti polls on May 19. In case of non-compliance, the authorities warned, the licences would be cancelled.

The district police commissionerate on Monday appealed to those with licensed weapons to deposit their firearms with the nearest police stations or gun houses so as to ensure free and fair zila parishad and block samiti polls on May 19. In case of non-compliance, the authorities warned, the licences would be cancelled.

In a press release issued here, the police authorities said that even as some persons had deposited their arms and ammunition, others were yet to do so.

They urged such persons to comply with the model code of conduct and deposit their firearms and ammunition within three days with the nearest police station or the gun house in the area or face action.
