The victim Rachhpal Singh alias Ramna, 26, hanged himself from a ceiling fan. He also left a suicide note, mentioning police apathy.

Rachhpal’s family claimed that on July 12, their neighbours Vicky, Tarni, Tarni’s two brothers and their accomplice had thrashed him. Rachhpal had complained to the police and an FIR was also lodged against the accused. However, the accused were not arrested, due to which Rachhpal was disturbed.

The Sadar police have registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused, following the complaint of Rachhpal’s brother Baldev Singh.

When contacted, additional deputy commissioner of police Surinder Lamba said the police will arrest the accused soon. He added that he will also investigate to know as to why police did not arrest the accused.
