Man shot dead son in Mandi

Twenty-year-old son was shot dead by his father for intervening in a quarrel in a drunken condition with his mother and was declared brought dead when his relatives took him to RP Government Medical College (RPGMC) Tanda, Kangra, police said here on Wednesday.

Twenty-year-old son was shot dead by his father for intervening in a quarrel in a drunken condition with his mother and was declared brought dead when his relatives took him to RP Government Medical College (RPGMC) Tanda, Kangra, police said here on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in a village in Sudhar valley of Drang segment of Mandi on late Tuesday evening.
Officiating station house officer (SHO) Jogindernagar police station, Ashok Kumar said Prem Chand, father of the deceased, in a drunken condition was quarreling with his wife.

He said when son Adesh Kumar, 20, who was reportedly bolted in a room by his father, managed to come out after hearing the screams of his mother and intervened and asked his father to stop.

He said Chand allegedly opened fire and shot his son and left him in a pool of blood.

It is said that Prem Chand, later on, tried to commit suicide by jumping into the deep valley but escaped unhurt.
Jogindernagar police have registered a case under section 302 (punishment for murder; death or life time imprisonment) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Chand and is investigating the incident.
