MC demolition drive condemned

Members of Istri Jagrati Manch, Pendu Mazdoor Union and Naujawan Bharat Sabha condemned Municipal Corporation (MC) for the demolition of shanties (Jhuggis) in Gujral Nagar on Thursday.

Members of Istri Jagrati Manch, Pendu Mazdoor Union and Naujawan Bharat Sabha condemned Municipal Corporation (MC) for the demolition of shanties (Jhuggis) in Gujral Nagar on Thursday.

Members of these organization also visited Gujral Nagar and met the people whose shanties were demolished and were lathicharged by MC Police. Jasbir Jassi, the member of Jagrati Manch and Kashmir Singh Ghugshore of Pendu Mazdoor Union said that MC has done this to please a few rich people.

They said that MC did not make any alternatives arrangements for the settlement of these people before demolishing the shanties. They said that the police in this operation lathicharged the pregnant women, sick persons, old men and small children.

The members said that on one side present government is promising to give residential plots to poor people while on the other side MC Officials are rendering people without any shelter.
