Addressing the gathering, Gandhi said that the skewed sex ratio was a matter of deep concern and the entire nation should work to eliminate it.

Owing to the biased mindset against female births, men in Haryana are "importing" women of marriageable age from other states.

"Female foeticide is a sensitive issue and people should come forward with complaints against those planning the 'murder' of their daughters in the wombs," she said.

Gandhi said that Haryana had a sorry record of sex ratio and there are several villages having less than 500 women against 1,000 men.

The minister said that not only the families but the medical fraternity is also equally responsible for dismal statistics.
