Son of a petty vendor, Manish was abducted from near the Bhangi choe by two motorcycle-borne people. DSP (city) Digvijay Kapil and SHOs of various police stations were launching a manhunt for the suspects when the miscreants dropped the child just 500 m from his hut and vanished.

SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that police were actively searching for the kidnappers. He suspected it to be a case of familial rivalry and hoped that the culprits would soon be brought to book. He said the police were also trying to locate 13-year-old Sumit Badhan, who has been missing since Sunday.

"We followed leads provided to us from time to time and rummaged around the religious places where the boy was reportedly spotted but could not exactly reach him," said the SSP, adding that in all probability it was not an abduction case.
