Moga police solve NRI murder, three arrested

Gurcharan and his wife, who had been living in Manila for the past several years, had come to their native village in January 2017; they were killed in July 2017.

Moga police claimed to have cracked the murder of NRI Gurcharan Singh with the arrest of three people on Monday. Gurcharan Singh was murdered on the intervening night of July 22 and 23 in 2017.

The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar, Shiva Kumar and Bablu Kumar, all originally from Uttar Pradesh and presently based in Moga.

“Four people were involved in the murder and, as of now, three have been arrested. The fourth accused is already in Modern Jail, Faridkot, with four cases of robbery and snatching already registered against him. He will be soon brought on a production warrant to join the investigation,” superintendent of police (detective) Wazir Singh Khaira said

“We arrested the accused after receiving a tip-off and during the interrogation they have confessed,” the SP added.

The four accused killed Gurcharan Singh and critically injured his wife, Baljit Kaur, after barging into their house situated in Tarewala village in Charik area of Moga in July, 2017. They also decamped with 80 gram gold, 6,500 Manila dollars and silver worth of Rs 2.80 lakh, he said.

Gurcharan and his wife had been living with their four married sons in Manila for the past several years. The couple had come to their native village in January 2017. Police said it will now focus on recovering the stolen items.
