The incident took place on Saturday afternoon after Paramjit sent her husband Rampal Singh to the market for an errand, said police.
Around 2:30pm, Paramjit’s brother-in-law allegedly found her and her daughter Sukhmandeep Kaur unconscious at her house in Chhajumajra in Kharar, after which he informed Rampal.
The victims were rushed to the Kharar civil hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
Police said the victim has left behind two suicide notes. In one of these, she has said no one else should be blamed for the deaths. In the other, she has mentioned that she was upset because of her family’s domestic circumstances. Paramjit’s kin, too, claimed she remained depressed due to frequent family disputes.
“We have sent the two suicide notes to the forensic department to examine whether they were written by the victim,” said Kharar station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Hastir.
Police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC, amounting to unnatural death. Police said the poison used by the victim is yet to be identified as there was no label on the vials.
