The commission has asked the SSP to explain why the FIR had not been registered for the cognizable offence. The commission said that considering the rise in crime against women, the state authorities should deal with the culprits strictly.

The commission took cognizance of the matter after the sisters alleged harassment on an Akali leader's bus in Muktsar.

The commission took cognizance of the news report which quoted the SSP as saying that the FIR could not be filed until the probe was over, even as the provisions of the code of criminal jurisprudence say otherwise.
