In one of the two classrooms, 10 students were sitting in the front area, however, the bricks fell on the backside. No students were present in the other class which was a resource room, a classroom for physically challenged students.

The school is running in a dharamsala since 1950 and has never been repaired. There are total five classrooms in the school.

Though the total strength of the school is 283, but on Tuesday, only 54 students were present.

Schoolteacher Jasvinder Kaur said, “I have written to the block primary education officer, Mangat 2, about this incident. Due to thin strength, a major tragedy was averted. The school has never been repaired and it was necessary to inform the block primary education officer (BPEO) that it is risky for the students to sit in these classrooms as bricks can fall in other classrooms also. We are now waiting for directions from the BPEO.”

When contacted, district education officer, elementary, Ram Bhushan said, “An inquiry has been marked to junior engineer Pawandeep Singh, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. I will be able to comment only after I get the report. Safety of students is important for us and we will do our best.”
