Oxford Handbook of Sikh studies recognises Pbi varsity prof's work

As per vice-chancellor Jaspal Singh, one of Gurnam's research papers in the field of Sikh music traditions has been published by the Oxford University Press.

He said Oxford handbook innovatively combines the ways in which scholars from different fields have integrated the study of Sikhism within a wide range of critical and post-colonial perspectives on the nature of religion, violence, gendre, ethno-nationalism and revisionist historiography.

In his paper, Gurnam Singh, founder professor and head of Gurmat Sangeet Chair and department of Gurmat Sangeet, elaborated on the Sikh music tradition that Gurmat Sangeet is a sacred music and an art of spiritual communication through the medium of devotional singing of scriptural hymns.

In the second part, he has dwelt at length on the development of Sikh music that commenced with Guru Nanak and continued by his successors.

Singh is among very few scholars who have been bestowed with this prestigious presentation, which has been dedicated to Harbans Singh, who has done commendable work in the field of Sikh Studies.
