The paid-parking contractor at Sukhna Lake was found fleecing people by overcharging in violation of rules on Wednesday.

During a visit to the parking lot, HT found that people were being charged rs 10 instead of rs 2 for two-wheelers. The parking contractor’s employee was also found charging double the amount for four-wheelers. As per norms, they have to charge Rs 2 for two-wheelers and Rs 5 for four-wheelers.

HT, in its reports in March last year, had highlighted how parking contractors at various lots, especially those outside Elante Mall and Sukhna Lake, were fleecing people by overcharging. Subsequently, a vigilance inquiry was marked. The board displaying the parking rate list is covered with pamphlets. A visitor, Gurpreet Singh, said, “I visited the lake where I found that the parking slip issued for a motorbike was cut in half.”

Abhishek Dhanda, the parking contractor, said, “I don’t think employees are overcharging. I will look into the complaint.”
