After arresting another murder accused, Sukhwinder Singh on Friday, Patti DSP Jagdeep Singh tried to clarify to the media that Sukhraj's murder was not political but due to personal enmity.

In this context, he claimed that Harcharan Singh, another accused and brother of Sukhwinder, who was arrested on Thursday had confessed during questioning that he was an active Congress member and also had an identity card.

He took pains to prove that Sukhraj, who was the Congress candidate for the Block Samiti elections was murdered on Wednesday due to his enmity with the killers.

It was a statement that seemed to be made in panic after the senior leadership of the Congress including its chief Partap Singh Bajwa descended on Patti to allege that the police was siding with SAD in the elections and were confiscating the weapons of Congressmen and not of the Akalis.
