
PAU students receive 29 merit scholarships
An award ceremony of Dr Gurdev Singh Khush Foundation for advancement of agricultural sciences was held at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Wednesday.
The foundation presented 29 merit scholarships and six travel grants to the students and faculty of PAU.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Gurdev Singh Khush said, "It is indeed a great pleasure to see Punjab Agricultural University providing leadership to the youth, who are going to be the future leaders of the country." Khush said economies of Brazil, India, Russia and China were doing well and there was an admiration of their work.
Referring to agriculture, industrial and information technology (IT) revolutions, Khush said that there were many opportunities for the youth. He called upon the students to work hard and contribute towards the welfare and advancement of the country.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to DS Brar, adjunct professor at School of Agricultural Biotechnology and Kuldeep Singh, director, School of Agricultural Biotechnology, PAU, for contributing towards the success of Dr GS Khush Foundation.
Baldev Singh Dhillon, vice-chancellor, PAU, said that the students were the future of our nation. Dhillon urged the students to touch greater heights in the future and keep bringing laurels to their alma-mater.
He extended his best wishes to the students who bagged merit scholarships and travel grants.
SS Johl, chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, encouraged the students and said, "We are hopeful and confident that you will do well. The scholarships will motivate you to accept challenges and come out as a winner."
DS Brar said that the major objective of the foundation was to provide financial support in the form of merit and merit-cum-rural scholarships to the students of PAU and to support travel grants for participation of young scientists and students in scientific conferences. He urged the students to work hard for the merit list.
Kuldeep Singh said that the foundation aimed at supporting award for scientific excellence and inviting experts for delivering lectures to the faculty and students of PAU. He congratulated the merit holders.
