The campaign led by superintendent of police, SS. Boparai, district traffic incharge, was strictly enforced. Hundreds of vehicles with black windowpanes were stopped in many city areas throughout the day.

Interestingly, almost all the vehicle drivers caught with black windowpane of cars offered the police to remove the black screens fearing challan.

The apex court has banned the use of any kind of black films on vehicle windowpanes. Numerous vehicles on Patiala roads, a majority of them belonging to small-time politicians and bureaucrats, can been seen flouting norms without any stringent checks so far.

The police had already warned people of a special drive on Friday and that the traffic police would be on the prowl from Monday, he added.

Still there are many vehicles in the city with jet black windowpanes and they are yet to be noticed by the police.

Illegal use of black films and red lights on vehicles is increasing at an alarming pace in the city with policemen almost 'helpless' in checking the menace.
