Punjab BJP spokesperson’s car snatched at gun point

In an incident that exposes the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, unidentified armed youths reportedly snatched Innova car of Punjab BJP spokesperson RP Maini at the gun point from Basant Avenue area here on Thursday night.

The incident took place around 9.45pm when Maini went for dinner at a restaurant in the Basant Avenue area.
Maini’s driver Sonu, who was waiting in the car, claimed that when he alighted from the vehicle, around seven armed youths pushed him back into the car and drove away.

When they reached near Jindiala Toll Plaza, around 17km from here, they abandoned him on the road and fled with the car, claimed Sonu.

Meanwhile, Maini said when he came out of the restaurant, he found his car and driver missing, and when he ran on Sonu’s mobile it went unanswered.

Following information, assistant commissioner of police (ACP, north) Kamaljeet Kaur and station house officer of the Civil Lines police station Sukhvinder Singh rushed to the spot. However, they refused to comment on the incident, saying they had just reached the spot.

No case was registered till the time of filing of the report.
