Punjab medical entrance test to be back on June 12 as NEET deferred

Hours after the Union cabinet approved an ordinance to defer enforcing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) by a year, Punjab on Friday decided to bring back own Pre-Medical Entrance Test (PMET) on June 12 to fill 85% seats in the undergraduate medical and dental science courses.

The examination was earlier scheduled for May 15 but scrapped on April 30 in the wake of the Supreme Court ordering a single National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges across the country. Aspirants who had already registered for the PMET need not apply again, said Dr Raj Bahadur, vice-chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot.“We will conduct the PMET online as decided earlier and open online registration for a few days for those who failed to apply last month,” he added. Punjab medical education minister Anil Joshi and the parents of medical aspirants welcomed the move.
