The election commission (EC) has asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to submit a copy of its Dalit manifesto, which was released in the presence of party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal on November 25.

As the Dalit manifesto speaks about a major chunk (32%) of the state’s population, it is being seen as a step to polarise the community.

Punjab chief electoral officer VK Singh, who has sent a communiqué to the party, said: “I will go through the manifesto and see how things have been presented in it.”

Singh said the commission has started the process to scrutinise manifestoes of all parties, and could even ask them to make changes to these in case the promises made are found to be “impractical and vitiating the poll environment”.
