Punjab schools to teach from NCERT maths, science books

From the next session, the students who follow the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) syllabus will get revised science and mathematics books. Understanding the competitive-examination model, the board is all set to adopt the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) pattern for the two subjects in all classes.

Understanding the competitive-examination model, the board is all set to adopt the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) pattern for the two subjects in all classes. "Reading NCERT-pattern books will help Classes 11 and 12 the most," said board chairman Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, adding: "For 25 years, there was no major modification in the syllabus but now we have to be progressive," she said.

The social science and language syllabus will remain inclined toward the state curriculum. Teachers have welcomed the step. "The state's students trailed in the AIPMT (All-India Pre-medical Test) or JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) rankings because the syllabus was different from the textbooks," said national award winning principal Kusum Lata of Government High School, Mundian Kalan.

The board has revised 69 books already for Classes 1 to 10.
