The Punjabi University students, under the banner of All India Students’ Federation (AISF), Punjab Students’ Union, Student Federation of India and the University Research Scholars’ Association, protested the fee hike, within the campus.
The students also protested the state government’s decision to stop post-metric scholarship to Dalit students. However, the university’s dean of students’ welfare Kulbir Singh Dhillon issued a notice to all heads of departments, regional centers and other campuses to remit the fee amount of Dalit students as per scholarship norms.
However, as far as hike in fee structure is concerned, he said they had already met officials concerned and urged them to roll back the decision.
“The decision to increase fee of university courses by 4-10% and by over 50% in constituent colleges will put extra burden on the students,” he said.
