Earlier, Dera chief’s application for copies of statements recorded by then CBI DSP KL Raina was rejected. SK Garg Narwana, counsel for Ram Rahim, said that during his cross-examination, Raina had told the court that before him, inspector Sat Narain had also met the alleged rape victims but then they had denied the allegations of rape. He had also sought direction that victims be called again so that these statements could be put to them.

On the other hand, CBI counsel HPS Verma contested that there was nothing on record to suggest that inspector Sat Narain too had recorded statements of alleged rape victims.

It was in 2006 that statements of two victims were got recorded again by another investigating officer following which Ram Rahim was chargesheeted. On September 24, 2002, the high court had handed over the case to the CBI.
