A retired inspector of Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday was shot dead on Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway, by two unidentified men on motorcycle.
The incident occurred in the morning, when deceased Daljeet Singh Multani, who was doing property business post retirement, got a call for business meeting by unknown person and venue of the meeting was fixed on national highway, police sources said.
As soon as Daljeet, a resident of Hardyal Nagar locality reached the specific venue in his Alto car, two motorcycle borne persons, who were waiting for him, started firing at him from point blank range, said police adding that one of the the bullet hit him on the chest, and he died on the spot.
Superintendent of police (Detective) Rajinder Singh, who immediately rushed to the spot for investigation, when contacted revealed that at first sight, it seems the attackers were known to the victim and deceased was called for the sale of a building in Bhogpur area.
Daljeet's wife in her statement revealed that her husband got a call early morning from somebody and before leaving the home, he said that he was going for a meeting with client.
SP said, that call details of the deceased's phone was taken out to zero in the caller, who called the deceased for meeting.
"We have now identified the caller and it came to light that motive behind the crime was property", SP said without revealing the identity of accused.
"We are expecting the arrest of accused by this evening, for which police teams have already been sent to conduct raids", said SP adding that meanwhile dead body was sent to local civil hospital for post mortem after registering a case of murder in the concerned police station.
