Prof Fred Wegman, managing director of SWOV and Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, conferred the award on Soi at a function held in Amsterdam recently.
Soi was awarded for his research on curbing drunken driving in lower- and middle-income countries and use of technology in managing traffic and road safety.
The Foundation for Road Safety Research, SWOV, is the Netherlands' national scientific institute for road safety research. Delft University of Technology is the premier university of the Netherlands doing extensive research in road safety and traffic management.
Conferring the certificate, Prof Wegman appreciated Soi for his contribution in road safety. He offered Soi all cooperation in controlling road accidents in Punjab.
Soi said it was a great moment to get acknowledgement from the country with least number of road accident deaths. "I will use my expertise in reducing the number of deaths in Punjab as well as in India," said Soi.
