Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) secretary general Jaswant Singh Mann, 73, died on Monday morning after a brief illness. He is survived by wife and three sons. The cremation will take place here on Tuesday.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) secretary general Jaswant Singh Mann, 73, died on Monday morning after a brief illness. He is survived by wife and three sons. The cremation will take place here on Tuesday.
A former president of the All India Sikh Students’ Federation (AISSF), Mann started as a teacher at Khalsa College, Patiala, and subsequently taught at Punjabi University. Later, he shifted to Punjab and Sind Bank as a senior manager. Mann was one of the founder members of Bank of Punjab and served on the post of executive vice-president.
Once considered close to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, he remained a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal before quitting in 2005 to form the All India Shiromani Akali Dal. He merged his party into Simranjit Singh Mann-led SAD (Amritsar) in 2013.
