Sarabdyal's police custody extended

A local court on Sunday extended the police custody of Sarabdyal Singh for one more day. Sarabdyal, the personal assistant (PA) of former cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, has been in police custody since October 20. The PA, who was nabbed by the vigilance bureau from Nainital is the prime accused in the multi-crore fund embezzlement scam. Along with Sarabdyal, the vigilance bureau has also nabbed his brother in law Harjit Singh.

A local court on Sunday extended the police custody of Sarabdyal Singh for one more day. Harjit, as per the vigilance bureau, had opened five fake accounts to embezzle grant money of around Rs. 27 Lakh in the name of sports clubs. Sarabdyal is the prime accused in the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) scam as well as the embezzlement in discretionary funds of Ranike. On Saturday, the Vigilance Bureau had arrested three more persons, who were identified as Balwinder Singh, Jagtar Singh and Sushil Kumar.

Balwinder and Jagtar who were motivated by Harjit Singh, allegedly opened two fake accounts each to embezzle Rs 20 lakhs whereas Sushil Kumar had helped Sarabdyal in opening various accounts in banks. While Sarabdyal was sent in police custody on Sunday, all others, including Harjit were sent in judicial custody.
