Though the organisers of Sarbat Khalsa are yet to get permission for holding the November 10 event in Talwandi Sabo, the government has deployed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the town as a precautionary measure.
“Five companies of the CRPF have been deployed in the town. One company has already reached Talwandi Sabo while others will be arriving in the night,” said superintendent of police (operations), Gurmeet Singh. One company consists of around 80 personnel. The administration has already turned the town into a fortress by deploying police force ahead of the congregation.
Bathinda district magistratecum-deputy commissioner Basant Garg has declined the organisers a permission to hold the congregation. He has said that in order to maintain law and order, permission sought by the organisers had been denied.
He said that as per the report submitted by Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma, the permission was denied apprehending of ‘breach of peace’ and to ‘maintain law and order’. Preventive arrests of ‘trouble makers’ have been made today in order to subvert any plans to disturb peace and communal harmony.
