A three-member inquiry committee set up by the Punjab prisons department has cleared Nabha jail superintendent Karanjeet Singh Sandhu of sexual harassment charges levelled by a woman inmate from Mohali who is under trail for the murder of her husband.

The woman had called ADGP (prisons) Gaurav Yadav from the jail premises and complained that Sandhu tried to molest her. Yadav formed a committee comprising DIG (prisons) Surinder Singh Saini, jail superintendent of Ludhiana women’s jail Damanjit Kaur Walia and superintendent, headquarters, Pamajit Kaur.
The committee, after recording statements of other inmates, jail staff, wardens, and checking CCTV footage, gave a clean chit to Sandhu, it is learnt. In the report, the committee said it found no evidence to support the allegation.
While refusing to divulge details, inspector general (prisons) Roop Kumar Arora said the inquiry report has been received and he will comment on it after discussing it with senior officials.
