A local mobile shop owner has accused an assistant sub-inspector and a constable of Sirhind police of illegally arresting him and taking bribe from him.

Naresh Garg, who has been running a mobile phone shop for more than two decades in Mandi Gobindgarh, said, "I was arriving from Delhi at midnight after purchasing new mobile phones for my shop and when I reached at Sirhind, ASI Prithviraj and a constable of local police dragged me out of bus and inspected me and checked my belongings. And when they saw mobile phones in my bag, they demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for letting me go and when requested them to leave me they started threatening me and put me in lock-up."
Garg added that the following morning the two took Rs 3,500 from him along with three mobile phones costing Rs 3,500 each and then they asked me to go home.
However, Prithviraj said Naresh's allegations are baseless and claimed that they just inspected him and left him.
District police chief GS Randhawa said, "I have marked an inquiry against the accused and will proceed further once I receive the reports."
