In an incident that brought shame to the school that produced the CBSE Class-12 district topper Deeba Goyal, six students of Kundan Vidya Mandir’s primary section have alleged that they were molested and touched inappropriately by Class IV employees during a summer camp this week.

It was a harrowing moment for their parents who staged a protest outside principal Navita Puri’s office on Saturday.

They were also joined by other parents. However, they alleged that the school authorities were forcing them to not pursue the matter with police.

The parents of two girl students have lodged a formal complaint.

Parents also blocked the road in front of the school and demanded an FIR against all the culprits who were identified by the students. So far, only one employee has been identified. The school management stated that it has suspended a gardener, Naresh Kumar, after he was identified by a student.

Later, police intervened and registered a case under Section 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

‘School trying to hush up matter’

Parents stated that their children were not safe even in schools and the school authorities were trying to hush up the matter.

They also alleged that Class IV employees, conductors, drivers and gardeners had formed a gang and were sexually abusing children of primary sections.

“After we pursued the case, bus conductors started threatening us. They said we will be solely responsible for the safety and security of our children who commute in the buses,” said a parent.

Another parent said, “Children told their parents how female caretakers took them to the washroom after which they were touched by male employees.”

Assistant commissioner of police (North) Sachin Gupta reached the spot to investigate the matter. Gupta said the parents of the two girl students have recorded their statement following which an FIR was registered at Division 4 police station. Police will question all suspects and arrest those involved in the crime, he added.

The principal was unavailable for comment.

However, school management committee chairman VK Goyal said, “We took quick action on the compliant that we received on Friday. We have also suspended the accused gardener. Further, besides a police investigation, the school authorities are also inquiring to know whether others were involved to ensure the safety of our students.”
