Surprise check at gont offices finds many absent

During a surprise check of government offices on Monday, many officials and employees were found absent. On the directions of deputy commissioner Varun Roojam, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) B S Dhaliwal and sub divisional magistrates (SDMs) inspected various offices between 9.10 am to 9.40 am to check if the staff was punctual in reporting to duty.

Interestingly, many heads of the department too were found absent from their seats. The civil surgeon and eight doctors were not on duty when the SDM visited the local civil hospital. Assistant commissioner Paramdeep Singh checked staff attendance in various branches of deputy commissioner's office and found many of the employees absent.

Many staff members who were marked absent, said that they were on field duty. A couple of officials had gone to attend court cases.

The deputy commissioner said than an explanation had been sought from the absentees. He warned the staff to be punctual or face action.
