Even as the family claimed that he died due to dengue, there was no official confirmation on what led to the death of the child, a student of Sant Singh Sukha Singh Public School.

He was admitted to the Amritsar hospital after a prolonged spell of fever that did not responds to treatment by a doctor in Tarn Taran.

When contacted, senior epidemiologist Dr Sawarnjit Dhawan said, "It cannot be confirmed that dengue caused the death, till we receive the report of the test that we expect to get on Monday. We do not rely upon reports from private hospitals."
