A day after a 14-year-old boy who worked in a car workshop died, police arrested his co-worker on Friday.
The accused allegedly inflated air into his private parts through a compressor, following which he was rushed to hospital. The boy was referred neuro tests and CT scan, but he died soon after.
The accused was identified as 35-year-old Kashmir Singh. However, the family members of the boy staged a protest and blocked the road outside Atam Nagar police post. Assistant commissioner of police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti is investigating the case. They demanded that the owner of the workshop, Sartaj Kaur, should also be booked.
Later, when they blocked the road, police allegedly canecharged protestors to end the agitation and dispersed them. They alleged that Sartaj confined them in a room after the incident and stopped them from going to police. They also accused her of bribing them into cremating the boy and paying for the expenses of the funeral.
The accused is the main worker at the workshop, while the deceased, Avinash Kumar alias Aman, was a domestic help at the residence of the owner, Sartaj Kaur. He would often help other workers in cleaning the cars and other petty chores.
On Wednesday, while Avinash and another worker Deepak were washing a car, they started splashing water on each other. Kashmir asked them to stop, but he soon joined in. He held Avinash in his arms and asked another boy Sonu to switch on the machine and put the compressor on his private part. His body was soon inflated.
He was rushed to the hospital, but died while undergoing treatment. The boy’s kin alleged that the owner of car workshop was also involved in Avinash’s murder and she should also be booked.
The Atam Nagar ACP said the boy’s kin were shown CCTV footage of the entire incident that clarified that the owner did not have any clue about the incident until she was told by another worker.
However, the parents have further alleged that Sartaj did not inform them well in time so police could take action against her accordingly.
