Tension prevailed at the Sodal temple on Saturday following the Shiv Sena’s announcement to remove a portion of a gurdwara on the temple premises. Sensing trouble, the commissionerate police with a view to maintaining peace stopped Shiv Sena (Hindustan) national vice-president Vinay Jalandhary from moving outside his house.

A heavy police force headed by ACP (north) Satish Malhotra and station house officers (SHOs) was deployed to keep a vigil to ward off any untoward incident. Reports said both the Shiv Sena and a Sikh radical organisation have locked their horns several times over the issue of a portion of the gurdwara inside the temple.

A few days back, the Shiv Sena leaders held a meeting at the temple. The Sikh radical organisation had also called a meeting on Saturday.

The Shiv Sena had threatened that they will remove the gurdwara building from the temple, calling it an encroachment. ACP Malhotra said police had been deployed for security purpose to maintain peace and to ensure nothing untoward happened .
