Three students going home from their college in Nurmahal were crushed to death when the bike they were riding collided with a Punjab Roadways bus in Kandola Kalan village, on the Nurmahal-Phillaur road, in Jalandhar district around 1.40pm on Friday.

The victims — Ajay Kumar, Harpreet Singh and Jaswinder Pal Singh, all below 18 and residents of Talwan village — were students of Class 12 at PTM Arya College in Nurmahal.

According to details shared by the police, the bus headed to Nurmahal swerved onto the wrong side of the road and killed them on the spot. The bus driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, fled the spot. He was booked under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code, and “will be nabbed soon,” said deputy superintendent of police, Nakodar, Mukesh Kumar.

The bodies were sent to the civil hospital and would be handed over to the families after post-mortem examination.
