Trending in Ludhiana: 100 entries for ‘selfie with toilets’
In just ten days after it was first announced, over 100 entries of ‘Selfie with shauchalaya’ from far-flung villages of the district have poured in with the administration to date. The enthusiasts, a huge number of them women, from different nooks of urban and rural Ludhiana are posing with ‘clean toilets’ in a bid to win the competition.

Amusingly, as per the collection of selfies so far, elderly couples have also been sending their submissions in different poses and interesting expressions. Some of the entries received also have selfies of the entire family with toilets.
A huge number of entries have also been received on the WhatsApp group. The volume of submissions is comparatively low on email where very few selfies have arrived. As a contest rule, all have left their contact details with their selfies and to make the selection easier, concerned officials take print-outs daily and keep putting the best ones aside.
Interestingly, deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat and his team are not surprised. They are rather anticipating that the number of entries will rise as the competition date nears.
The competition was launched on September 17 to give wings to prime minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
Referring to the campaign aim as announced by Bhagat, beneficiaries of the toilets provided by the state government and Bharti Foundation have been asked to click selfies with their toilets and send it to the DC’s office by September 30. Out of all selfies received, the DC and his team will select an individual or family whose selfie will stand apart on grounds of cleanliness and proper basic facilities and that entry will be awarded at a special function on October 2. Officials said so far nearly 100 selfies have been received mainly from rural areas of the district and added that there was so much enthusiasm that after submitting their selfie, most of them call to check.
Vision and aim of campaign
As part of this campaign, 26,107 toilets will be constructed of which 20,000 have already been constructed and construction of all these toilets will be wrapped up by October 31 to ensure every household in the district has a proper toilet. The water supply and sanitation department will construct 8,000 toilets while the Bharti Foundation will construct 18,000 toilets.
