Truck loaded with poppy-husk recovered, two arrested

The district (rural) police today claimed to have recovered a truck loaded with 2,100 kg of poppy husk worth Rs 7 lakh. Acting on a tip off, a special search operation was launched on late Wednesday night and a truck was found to be suspiciously parked in Naugajja village, SP Rajinder Singh told reporters.

The district (rural) police today claimed to have recovered a truck loaded with 2,100 kg of poppy husk worth Rs 7 lakh.

Acting on a tip off, a special search operation was launched on late Wednesday night and a truck was found to be suspiciously parked in Naugajja village, SP Rajinder Singh told reporters.

During the truck's search, 60 bags containing 21 quintal of poopy husk hidden under tins of refined oil were recovered, the SP added. The occupants of the truck, Gurmel Singh, resident od Lallian village and Joginder Singh, resident of Nougajja village, were arrested after the registration of case under Sections 15,25,61 & 85 of NDPS Act at the Kartarpur police station.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused have said that they had lifted the contraband from Kishangarh in Rajasthan, the SP said, since the cultivartion of poppy husk was legal in Rajasthan.

They reportedly used to charge Rs 1 lakh for each trip from the drug supplier.
