A recklessly driven truck mowed down a one-year-old boy in Subhash Nagar on Sunday. The victim, Faizal, was playing outside his house, while his mother was inside, when the truck crushed the child to death.

Locals raised an alarm, but the unidentified truck driver managed to flee after leaving the vehicle behind.
An eyewitness said the truck was loaded with hosiery goods, adding that its driver, who was handicapped by one arm, before fleeing called the truck owner and informed him about the incident. Thereafter, the truck owner reached the spot but fled the scene on sensing public outrage.
The Basti Jodhewal police were informed and a case under section 279 (reckless driving) and 304-A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused. The police also impounded the truck.
