Two shopkeepers arrested for selling banned Chinese string for kites

Taking a serious note of non-compliance of the district magistrate's prohibition orders under section 144 of CRPC, the local police have arrested two shopkeepers for selling Chinese string for kites.

The sale of the string has been banned in the district as it has been found to be harmful for humans and birds.

The sale, use and storage of Chinese string for flying kites has been prohibited in the district under section 144.

"The raid was conducted after it was found that some shopkeepers were selling the string in violation of the orders," said deputy commissioner Anindita Mitra.

The police have seized 14 rolls of the string from the shopkeepers.

The team, led by assistant sub-inspector Satnam Singh, that raided the two shops situated at Arya Samaj Road seized 10 rolls from Akash Gautam and 4 from another shopkeeper Nitin.

Both were challaned and arrested under section 188 of CRPC for violating DM's prohibitory orders. He further said that under section 188, an offender could have to deposit a penalty of Rs 1,000 besides up to one-year jail.
